pondering the panamanians
Well, I cannot say that I haven’t given the coffee from Panama a good old college try. I have gone through three different beans from this country this past month alone. The first one, err wait a minute what was the first one? Let me check my notes…Ah yes here it is, the Carmen estate 1800+ Meters,: A rather dull coffee that I could not really wrap myself around.I felt bad about this so I decided to order two more pounds of different Panamanian beans to see if I could find something from this country that I liked. My next try was the Don Pepe Estate Dry Process. It was a decent cup of coffee that had a great roasting smell (perhaps from the dry process). Still, it was really nothing to write home about. Next up was the Boquete Golden Peaberry: another decent cup with a nice fruity flavor. Yet it seemed to be lacking a little something. None of these coffees from Panama made me sit up and go, “Wow, that is one damn good cup of Joe!” It was more alog the lines of, “Hmm, its ok, just ok.” I guess I my palate is not piqued by the Panamanian process (oh, I do love alliteration).
Anyways, As I am writing this I am also pondering whether or not I want to give the Panama Geshas that sweet Maria’s is offering a try. This is supposed to be some of the best coffee you can get with the best stuff going for over 125 bucks a pound. The reviews look pretty good, and I feel like there has to be something from this little country that I am going to like. Perhaps I will purchase one of the cheaper pounds of this Gesha stuff just to see what all the buzz is about. Perhaps their is a prayer for Panama yet. Possibly.
